Well. I took a subshift today. Unfortunately, I thought it was at 15:00, and it isn't till 18:00. Which is a mistake not so bad as most other mistakes could be. I'm in the right place, I'm not late, I'm not going to miss it, and it's still true that I don't need a security code, because I'm working 18:00-21:00 and the Soc Sci lab doesn't close till 0:00 on Sundays.

So anyway, here's soemtime for me to talk about BayCon yesterday. I went to BayCon yesterday with [info]architeuthisdux, my first major Con. We only went in starting at 19:00, in order to get the evening-only cut-rate. Which was fine, cause the Masquerade started at 20:00.

The Masquerade was great. It's the costume contest. Twenty-seven entries this year. Well, twenty-six, actually, numbered #1-14 and #16-27. Which is more than it might sound like, each entry is individually presented, often with narration and/or music, and plenty of the entries were multiple individuals.

So, out of these twenty-six, there were two Bujold entries! Aral and Cordelia! Wow. And a set of Chalionese clergy. Though the MC pronounced it more like Shaolin.

And Meilin Wong had an entry. Yes, that Meilin Wong, I went up and asked later; the Meilin Wong more than one of whose pictures I use for desktop pictures. She checked my name badge and is going to go look at my Elfwood Gallery (I originally found her stuff through her Elfwood Gallery.

And Mick and Lorie were there in their wedding costumes. I've heard of their wedding several times. I know people who were there.

Of these, I went and talked to Meilin, Mick and Lorie, and two of the Chalionese. I didn't talk to Aral or Cordelia, though. I couldn't get close to them, and I'm not sure I could have spoken to them anyway. I can't think of any other character who would make nearly so fanboy-shy as Aral and Cordelia. With the possible exception of their son, but at least he'd be more approachable.

Then I saw a Jareth walking around. I was sort of drifting over that way, and I saw someone taking a picture of him, and he had an acrylic out. So I went over to ask him if we knew how to use it, and it turned out it was Van! I borrowed his acrylic a bit. And then my hands were twitching, and nothing would do but to go out and get mine from where it was languishing in my backpack left in the car.

Then at various points we found dance music, and [info]architeuthisdux danced and I contact juggled to the music. It's really great to do it to music, I often forget. I can do stuff that I have down solid, and yet not get bored, because I need more focus to match my movements to the music, so I can have fun at it longer. And it forces me to work on presentation: varying speeds and stuff. And a lot of people liked it a lot. Which is good to remember, because I'm jaded with the stuff I can have down solid, it's good to remember that it's cool stuff. Even if it did attract the attention of a drunk female Klingon.
